How to calculate how much plywood you need
First calculate the total area of the surface you want to cover by multiplying its length by its width.
Next calculate the area of one plywood sheet. A common 4-by-8-foot sheet covers 32 square feet.
Divide the project area by the area of one sheet to estimate the base number of sheets required.
Add a waste allowance for cuts, mistakes and unusable off-cuts. For many simple projects, 5% to 15% is a practical starting range, depending on layout complexity.
Finally, round the result up to the next whole sheet before buying material.
